In Bournemouth's comfortable 5-0 win over Huddersfield, Bermudan born attacker, Ajani Burchall made history yesterday for the Cherries. With fans back for the first time, it was an exciting time to be a Cherry because not only did they get to see a very dominant display but the array of youth talent on show is really improving. Young players such as Zemura, Kilkenny, Ofoborh, Anthony, and now Burchall have been getting chances in the first team since Tindall's arrival as manager as a reward for impressive academy performances.
Just 16 years and 18 days old, the tricky winger showed flair in the short cameo he got after coming off the bench in the 87th minute, leaving the Bournemouth fans with a sense of intrigue for what is yet to come from the youngster. He began to play for the under-18s when he was just 15 and has featured in the majority of the matches for the youth team this campaign, earning his first call up to the first-team squad this week. Bournemouth have been able to give more opportunities to youngsters and this could be related to the five substitution rule, which not only allows more subs in the game but more players available for selection on the day. Since this rule, Bournemouth's youth player involvement has increased and the Cherries fans will hope for this to continue. Bournemouth sit 2nd in the Championship, just three points off of leaders Norwich, and with this start to the season and youth focus, this could be an excellent fresh-start for the South coast side as they seek to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
